First Baptist Church Ordains Pastor Kelly Lashly

On Saturday, July 2, 2016, the Members of FBC and a great cloud of witnesses gathered for a service of ordination for Kelly Lashly, our Associate Pastor for Ministry Development.  Participants included a wonderful worship team led by Seth Dekkenga, supported by Kathy, Mark, Mason and Madi Sundvold, Liam Reese and Larry Lang.

Offering their words of affirmation as they led in worship were Carol Potratz, longtime friend of Pastor Kelly from Edmonton, AB, Canada, Lenora Bezpatletz, member of First Baptist Church, as well as one of Pastor Kelly’s students and mentees, Rev. Dave Campbell, pastor of the new ABCD church plant in NW Sioux Falls.

Offering charges to the candidate and the church were Drs. Denise Kjesbo, Susan Reese and Randy Reese.  Pastors Warren and Laura Hoffman led in the Laying on of Hands as each person in the congregation was invited to come and pray a blessing over Pastor Kelly.  Randy Rasmussen, Executive Minister for the American Baptist Churches of the Dakotas led Kelly and the congregation in their ordination vows.

Following the service of worship and dedication, the participants gathered in the FLC for a light lunch and yummy desserts prepared by Pastor Kelly’s Mom Carrie Lashly and her sister Kathy Sundvold.  In the service were representatives from several of the churches that Kelly has served in the last 35 years as well as her time on the faculty of the Sioux Falls Seminary.

It was a time of tears and great encouragement for Kelly who has been quoted as saying “I have a blessing hang-over” from this meaningful and exhausting service of affirmation.  Thank you First Baptist for making this such a tremendous experience for Pastor Kelly and the church.
